The biggest Victory Banner and the flag of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) at the North Pole


On April 23, 2016 a special peacekeeping mission “The biggest Banner of Victory at the North Pole” ended. It was attended by the Speaker of the State Assembly (Il Tumen) Alexander Zhirkov, chairman of the permanent economic, investment and industrial policy committee, entrepreneurship, tourism and development of infrastructure , Viktor Fyodorov, and MP of republic Mikhail Yagnyshev.

The participants of the high-latitude polar expedition headed by the Hero of the Russian Federation, the Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Bocharov completed state assignment for the delivery on the Russian ice base “North Pole-2016” the symbol number 1 – the biggest copy of the Banner of Victory.

The mission marked the beginning of the cultural and patriotic project “Banner of Victory 2015-2020”, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory of the Soviet people and its armed forces over fascism in the Great Patriotic War. Within five years, from 2016 to 2020, in the framework of the project in many cities across the country, including in Yakutsk, will be installed flagpoles height of 50 meters with a copy of the Banner of Victory.

The organizer of the project is the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation with the support of the Federation Council and the State Duma, the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War, official partner is Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation.

On April 22, 2016 on the Sredniy Island of Sedov Archipelago as part of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago, the delegation visited the visiting guards, visited the main attraction of the island – the museum of the discovery and the development of the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago in the house of Ushakov based by the staff of the Arctic Institute.


An-74 aircraft with the peacekeeping mission delegation landed on drifting ice floe  of ice camp “Barneo” – the uniqueness transit point on the way to the North Pole. Seasonal drifting station is opened every year in early April from 2000 and for the whole month is becoming the main scientific and tourist center of the Russian Geographical Society in the Arctic Ocean, drifting near the North Pole. Every year, scientists from the Institute of Arctic and Antarctica (St. Petersburg), Institute of Oceanology of Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow), experts from the USA National Science Centre (the NSP) and the Center for Applied Research of the Russian North, the Arctic and Antarctica, Peter’s Academy of Arts and Sciences (Krasnoyarsk) and others are working here.

At the North Pole was held the official ceremony of the largest demonstrations of the Banner of Victory, was set a national record: symbol №1 of our country is spread over an area of thousands of square meters. Also, the on “roof of the world” at the suggestion of a member of the Coordinating Council of the program “The Power of XXI century” and “Banner of Victory”, the chairman of the State Assembly (Il Tumen) of Yakutia Alexander Zhirkov there was deployed the flag of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The biggest in the history the Banner of Voctory and flag of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) were a reminder of heroism of the multinational Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War and the Yakuts contribution to the Great Victory.
