At the end of the Russian championship in mas-wrestling, which was held on April 23-24 in Tver, 11 Yakuts got tickets to the World Championship, and nine athletes – to the European Championship.
The winners received the right to take part at the World Championship, which will take place in Kyrgyzstan (September 1-8) and silver medalists were given tickets for the European Championship in Georgia (July 21-25).
According to the website of the All-Russian Federation of mas-wrestling, the championship was attended by 115 athletes from 13 regions, including 47 Yakut wrestlers. They headed four winners of the competition in all weight categories, except the weight of over 125 kg, where the first place won again Viktor Kolibabchuk from Smolensk. In the final, he won young heavyweight from Tomponsky District Sergey Frolkin.
Among men in weight categories to 60, 70, 80 kg and among women in the weight category up to 65 kg the podium was completely Yakut. Suddenly, in a group up to 70 kg the “bronze” took the leaders among the Yakuts, son of senior coach of Russia Sergey Konstantinov and wrestler from Nryungri Mikhail Kovalik. The “gold” won the wrestler from Amga Afanasy Platonov, and “silver” got son of world champion Tuyara Orlova – Artur Orlov.
In the weight category up to 90 kg world champion Dmitry Popov after the fight in the quarterfinals with the main opponent Pavel Chernogradsky suffered a serious leg injury and was eliminated from the race for the medals. In an interview with YSIA he said he would recover within a month and would be back on the podium. In this category the “silver” and a ticket to the European Championship won son of the multiple champion of Yakutia Anatoly Baishev – Egor Baishev.
