Japanese Atsuko Sugimoto became an Honorary Professor of NEFU


The ranks of honorary professors of the North-Eastern Federal University were expanded by Professor Atsuko Sugimoto. The Scientific Council of NEFU noted her contribution to the development of science and education on April 25.

The rector of NEFU Evgenia Mikhailova said that the university has been in close cooperation with the Hokkaido University for a long time: there are conducted joint research in the field of climatology, also there is a summer school led by Professor Atsuko Sugimoto.

“She has been conducting and coordinating the ecosystem research on permafrost in eastern Siberia with the Russian colleagues for 16 years. I thank you for your partnership not only with scientists, but also with students and graduate students of our university,”- said the rector of the university.

Professor Atsuko Sugimoto directs the project “Changes in terrestrial ecosystems of pan-Arctic region and the impact on the climate,” which is one of the research projects of the Japanese initiative within the observation network of the best practices funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in Japan.
