Olympic champion Taha Akgul: I know that Yakuts are my ancestors


Rio Olympics champion, Turkish freestyle wrestler Taha Akgul said in his interview that Yakuts are his ancestors. Let us note that 2-times world champion became an honored guest of the 9th International tournament in memory of Dmitry Korkin on 1-2 October.

“I want to express my gratitude for such a warm reception. I’m glad that I’ve arrived here, and I respect your folk. I know that Sakha are our ancestors, it’s used to be said at school”, – Taha Akgul highlighted.

He said that local freestyle wrestlers are high-potential athletes, and Korkin’s tournament help to bring their talent to light. That particular competition was his first ever experience at the international level.

“This tournament is significant for me. All world wrestlers get through such competitions. I participated here four years ago but I’ve lost the first round. I’m glad that one Olympic cycle was needed for me to come back here as an honored guest. It’s very challenging tournament. It’s where many wrestlers come from”, – the champion noted.

In nearest future Taha Akgul will take part in World and Europe championships, in four years he strive to make a mark at Tokio Olympics.
